22 out of 39 candidates granted Police protection

The committee appointed to deal with the security of the candidates running for the Presidency disclosed that 22 out of the 39 Presidential candidates have received Police protection.

The committee sources stated that an assessment regarding the security of all the candidates is currently taking place and accordingly there will be changes in the amount of security provided.

Sources also said the security of the President is provided by the Presidential Security Division, and the security of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has been enhanced.

The head of this committee is Viyani Gunathilaka, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security.
