“A Moonment to Remember” Mid-Autumn Poetry Gathering” Held in Sri Lanka
On September 16, the “A Moonment to Remember — Mid-Autumn Poetry Gathering”, co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, and organized by China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was successfully held in Colombo.
Hon. Mahinda Abewardena, Speaker of Sri Lankan Parliament and his wife, H. E. Qi Zhenhong, Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka, and his wife, envoys from countries to Sri Lanka, Ni Lisheng, Director of China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka, Liu Guojian, Second-level Inspector of the Department ofCulture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and more than 200 people from all walks of life and representatives of overseas Chinese attended the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong said that as one of the four traditional festivals of the Chinese nation, the Mid-Autumn Festival carries the profound cultural heritage of the Chinese nation from thousands of years. The Festival symbolizes harvest, harmony, reunion, peace and sharing, and carries Chinesepeople’s good wishes to share the same moon, family happiness, and peace and prosperity no matter where they are. As an ancient country with a long history, Sri Lanka also has a unique full moon festival culture, which has penetrated into all aspects of Sri Lankan culture and people’s lives.
The same bright moon connects and brings the two peoples closer together and builds a bridge for cultural exchange between the two countries.Hon. Mahinda Abewardena said that the Mid-Autumn Festival is an important traditional festival in China, and the Sri Lankan Full Moon Festival is also an important part of the country’s culture and people’s lives. This event will definitely promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between Sri Lanka and China. Such cultural exchange highlights the traditional friendship between the two countries and their peoples. Today’s celebration is also to continue topass on this friendship.
Ni Lisheng, director of China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka, said that “A Moonment to Remember” is a large-scale global event launched by the Ministry of Cultureand Tourism of China. It has been successfully held in more than 50 countries around the world for many years and has been welcomed by people from all countries.
This year, China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka joined hands with theDepartment of Culture and Tourism of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to present a wonderful cultural feast for everyone.The art performance kicked off with the beautiful recitation of “Water Melody·When Will the Moon Be There” by the children of Lumbini Confucius Classroom. Artists fromthe Guangxi National Orchestra and the Guangxi Song and Dance Theater brought traditional classic works such as “Mountain Songs Are Like Spring River Water”, “Lusheng Love Songs”, “Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon”, “Dream Butterfly Spring”, “Jasmine Flower” and other well-known songs such as “The Same Starry Sky” and “The Moon Represents My Heart” to the Chinese and Sri Lankan people.
When the Sri Lankan traditional songs “Lanka, Lanka” and “Pot Dance” began, the audience clapped and sang along. The whole performance was full of poetic and picturesque, conveying the good wishes of the Chinese and Sri Lankan people forthe Mid-Autumn Festival reunion and the long-standing friendship between the two countries. The atmosphere at the event was joyful and warm, with constant applause.
Afterthe performance, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong and his wife experienced the Guangxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Market with Chinese and foreign guests, and participated in interactive experiences such as making moon cakes, lacquer fans, and guessing lantern riddles.
