AI to play major role in honoring artistes, a first in the world
For the first time in the world, the Raigam Tele awards are looking at the possibility of presenting one tele awards during the event based on sections done by Artificial Intelligence (AI). This selection would be done sans any judges and purely based on AI.
This is being meted on a suggestion made by the Daily News Business. Chairman, Raigam Group of Companies Dr. Ravi Liyanage when suggested this said that they will try to capture this idea for the 21st tele awards that was launched in Colombo on Wednesday. He also said that Raigam Tele’es is the only tele/film awarding ceremony in the region held within the first quarter immediately after the end of year and they would love to present an AI based award and create world tele/film awarding history.
In 2005 Raigam Tele’es was launched by the famous local business conglomerate in the FMCG industry, the Raigam Group of Companies to fill the gap that had been created in conducting a regular award ceremony for the television industry due to the unstable situation in the country. Today, Raigam Tele’es has become the most prominent television festival in Sri Lanka with the record of conducting such an event consecutively. Raigam Tele’es has pioneered in introducing many features to the industry including announcement of nominations at a grand function prior to the main event. While the award winners are benefited with cash awards, all the nominees are benefited with a valuable insurance cover and testimonials.
He also disclosed that Allianz Insurance too had been the event’s insurance partner and provided a life insurance cover for judges and nominees to the tune of Rs. one million and a further Rs 100,000 hospitalization.
Dr. Liyanage also thanked Sampath Bank for coming forward to sponsoring this event for 14 years and said without them the awards ceremony would not be a reality. Senior DGM, Marketing, Customer Care and Card Centre, Sampath Bank, Tharaka Ranwala said that the bank had a great desire to support the artists but banking regulations don’t allow them to support them directly.
Hence we selected Raigam Tele awards to support this initiative. He also disclosed that Raigam has been a leading corporate customer with them for several years. Closing date for acceptance of applications for the Raigam Tele’es will be on January 15, 2025, the nomination evening will be on February 28, 2025 at the Water’s-Edge and the award ceremony will be held on March 29, 2025 at Shangri La, Colombo.
