An amendment bill amending the Universities Act is gazette.

An Amendment Bill has been gazetted amending the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978.

According to the amended gazette notification, there is a possibility of establishing a university for a specific purpose to provide higher education to non-students.

However, the Inter-University Students Federation and the National People’s Force have emphasized that the bill will not be allowed to pass.
