Army Prioritizes Wellbeing of Personnel and Families through New Initiatives

The Sri Lanka Army recently took commendable steps towards enhancing the wellbeing of Army personnel and their families, focusing on crucial areas like healthcare and education. Under the directions of Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, a series of initiatives was launched on 14 February 2024.

A significant development is the introduction of a Cashless Medical Claim Policy. This policy aims to alleviate financial burden by covering medical expenses for serious illnesses and non-serious surgeries for Army personnel, their families and retired Officers and Other Ranks who are members of the Suwasahana Insurance Fund. Partnering with the Suwasahana Insurance Fund, the policy enables direct settlement of hospital bills at a network of 33 private hospitals across the nation. Further, the Asiri Hospital Group has pledged to sponsor two cardio surgeries every month for children of Army personnel. This generous act offers invaluable support to families facing such critical situations.

Acknowledging the significance of education, the program also granted school supplies to 635 students who demonstrated exceptional performance in the grade 5 scholarship examinations in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, 300 “Study Buddy” web applications were provided to facilitate the educational journey of soldiers’ children.
