British farmers protest in Westminster against inheritance tax changes

0 19

LONDON: Tractors rolled into Westminster on Wednesday as farmers gathered to protest proposed changes to inheritance tax laws, which they say threaten the future of British agriculture.

The demonstration, organised by Kent Fairness for Farmers and Save British Farming, saw hundreds of farmers, with many flying the Union Jack and honking loudly as they drove through the area, drawing cheers from onlookers.

The vehicles were adorned with signs bearing slogans such as “No farmers, no food,” “Not hungry? Thank a farmer,” and “Save British Farming.” The protest came in response to measures announced in the Government’s recent budget.

Farmers have expressed outrage over plans to extend inheritance tax to include certain agricultural properties.

Additionally, protesters have described the Government’s decision to accelerate the phaseout of EU-era farming subsidies in favor of environmental payments as “toxic” to the industry.

A Police presence was evident around Parliament Square, as officers managed the influx of demonstrators and maintained order.
