Cargills Convenient Foods Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC, announced the opening of its new state-of-the-art processing facility on March 13, 2024.

This significant investment, totalling approximately Rs. 550 million, underscores the company’s commitment to both local economic growth and global market expansion.

Specializing in renowned brands such as Goldi, Sams, and Cargills Finest, Cargills Convenient Foods has become synonymous with quality and innovation in the local food industry.

The new facility will bolster the company’s capacity to meet growing demand, particularly in export markets, while also enhancing its ability to serve domestic customers across modern trade, general trade, and the HORECA sector (hospitality, restaurants, catering).

The company will now possess two meat processing facilities, both of which are located in Ja-ela, adjacent to each other. The existing plant also features advanced processing capabilities, including a braided line with centre filling capabilities.

Furthermore, the facilities are equipped with all requisite international and local accreditations and certifications for food safety, quality management, and environmental management.

This commitment to excellence ensures that customers receive products of the highest standard while upholding stringent safety and sustainability practices throughout the production process.

Demonstrating its commitment to resource conservation and environmental stewardship, the plants are equipped with solar rooftop panels to minimise its reliance on non-renewable energy.

Additionally, the facility features an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) system to treat wastewater, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting responsible water management practices.

Treated water from the ETP is repurposed for gardening purposes within the plant premises.

Managing Director of Cargills Convenient Foods Ltd, Mahinda Ganepola, commented, “We are thrilled to inaugurate this cutting-edge processing facility, which represents a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable growth and excellence.”

“By expanding our operational footprint, we aim to further strengthen our position as a leading player in the convenience food market, while simultaneously contributing to the development of local communities and the livestock sector.”

In addition to enhancing production capabilities, the new plant will create numerous market opportunities for livestock farmers nationwide.

Through partnerships and collaborations with local suppliers, Cargills Convenient Foods remains committed to fostering a resilient and inclusive supply chain that benefits stakeholders at every level.
