China – Sri Lanka friendship must be safeguarded – Ambassador
China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, stated that some countries are attempting to shatter the longstanding friendly ties between China and Sri Lanka and both countries should be vigilant in this regard.
He noted that both nations must remain vigilant to preserve this relationship and emphasised the importance of safeguarding the long-standing friendship between China and Sri Lanka,.
Speaking during a visit to the Palipane Sri Chandanananda Buddhist School, where he received blessings from the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera, Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter and Dr. Godagama Mangala Nayaka Thera, Chief Incumbent of the historic Dambulla Rajamaha Vihara, the ambassador reiterated China’s unwavering support for Sri Lanka’s progress and development.
Ambassador Qi expressed his satisfaction regarding Sri Lanka’s recent election of a new President and government, assuring that China’s support will continue as before. He highlighted the unbreakable Buddhist ties between the two nations and firmly stated that any attempts to sever the friendship between Sri Lanka and China would be unsuccessful.
He further remarked that China possesses significant capacity to assist Sri Lanka in overcoming its current economic challenges, underscoring China’s consistent commitment to aiding the country in difficult times.
Dr.Godagama Mangala Nayaka Thera affirmed the importance of the long-standing friendship, warning that any nation attempting to disrupt this bond would face resistance from the Maha Sangha. He praised the historical ties strengthened during the tenure of former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike when cooperation between the two nations flourished.
The Thera also expressed appreciation for China’s support during the COVID-19 pandemic, which he said Sri Lankans will never forget, and commended the ambassador’s efforts to further enhance bilateral relations. The event was attended by the Principal of the Palipane Sri Chandanananda Buddhist School, Ven. Godagama Dhammakitti Thera, along with other dignitaries.
