Compensation for fishermen who lost their jobs due to the Express Pearl ship from today

The Minister of State for Fisheries Kanchana Wijesekera states that the compensation for the fishermen who lost their jobs due to the burning of the Express Pearl will commence from today (12).

Accordingly Rs. 420 million is to be distributed to 16,000 fishermen.

This is the amount of interim compensation requested by the government before the total compensation received by the fishermen due to the shipwreck.
