Deep depression hits country, cyclone likely today

The Depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal which was located to the Southeast about 170 km off Batticaloa and 240 km off Trincomalee yesterday (26) is likely to move towards the Northwest and intensify into a deep depression today during the next 12 hours and move very close to the east coast of the country and is likely to further intensify into a cyclone today.

The Department of Meteorology (MET) has predicted that the depression will move towards Tamil Nadu in India over the East coast of the country in the next two days.

Landslide warnings have been issued for ten districts due to the heavy rains experienced in the country by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).
