Family spends three nights atop tree to escape floods

Three including a mother and her three-year-old child from Monerathanna who were trapped in a tree hut for three days due to floods were saved in a joint operation by Police, disaster management centre officials and officials of the Welikanda Divisional Secretariat yesterday. The father, mother had gone to the tree hut with their child three days back to protect their cultivations from the animals but as usual had not been able to return home as the area had got flooded due to the overflowing of Maduru-Oya. Two youth who had gone on a tube boat to deliver food to the family had also got stranded due to floods and they too were rescued by relief teams yesterday while on a tree top.

Police said all rescued persons are in good health.
