First Capital hits a triple with SSC Open 2024

Celebrating the 125th anniversary of Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), First Capital Holdings PLC is proudly supporting the SSC Open Tennis Championship for the third year in a row. The tournament, called SSC Open 2024, is taking place from January 6 to January 21, 2024, at the SSC tennis courts.

This tennis championship is a big deal because it’s one of the first tournaments in the 2024 tennis calendar and has over 750 players participating. It’s considered one of the best tennis events in the country.

Famous players like Saajida Razick, Chathurya Nilaweera, Apna Perera, Thehan Wijemanne, Vishmi Serasinghea, Dinethya Dharmaratne, Inuki Jayaweera, and Dinara De Silva are expected to compete. The tournament has helped many new talent become well-known in the Sri Lankan tennis community. This year’s championship has events for both boys and girls from under 12 to under 18 (singles and doubles), men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. There are also events for veterans in the over 35, over 45, and over 55 age groups.

Vasantha Wijesekera, SSC Secretary, is excited about the championship’s historical significance, marking 125 years of SSC. He sees the First Capital SSC Open Ranking Championship as the start of the 2024 tennis season.

The championship, which started in the 1980s and was brought back in the late 1990s, has helped national players shine internationally. Important features include equal prize money for men and women, chair umpires, live TV coverage of the finals, and high standards for players and spectators.

Randinith Madanayake, Head of Marketing at First Capital, stressed the importance of their ongoing partnership, expressing joy in contributing to tennis in Sri Lanka. This partnership fits with First Capital’s “Performance-First” philosophy and supports SSC’s aim for excellence in the game.
