The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) has announced plans to enhance the cybersecurity awareness of public sector employees to safeguard state institutions. This initiative aims to address the persistent cyber threats faced by government websites and computer software, which are frequently targetted by cyberattacks.
CERT emphasised that restoring compromised websites and software incurs significant annual costs, leading to substantial wastage of public funds. Recognising this issue, the organisation has developed a strategy to strengthen cybersecurity mechanisms across state institutions.
As part of this initiative, CERT plans to improve the digital literacy of public sector employees. The programme has already begun providing knowledge and awareness to various departments in the public sector, with a focus on expanding these training efforts further by 2025.
