Health and Mass Media Minister Dr Nalinda Jayathissa said that steps are being taken to evaluate projects being implemented by international organizations, including the World Health Organization, and those to be carried out in the future, to prepare a plan that can achieve more effective results through good management by providing extensive facilities and new technology
A meeting between the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and the representative of the World Health Organization, Dr. Alaka Singh, was held recently at the Ministry of Health. Subsequent to the discussion, expressing his views, the Minister of Health revealed the above facts.
The Minister of Health pointed out that many international organisations are already holding discussions to implement new projects in this country with the aim of improving the Health Protection, Welfare and Quality of Life of the people as well as progress in the Economic, Social, Cultural and Scientific sectors. It was mentioned that a number of international organizations such as the World Health Organization, UNICEF and many others have already expressed their agreement to continue the projects implemented to improve the Healthcare System in this country.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Alaka Singh, said that by increasing the cooperation and coordination between countries, as well as through the proper management of projects, the challenges in the Health sector can be overcome and the existing problems can be resolved. She also said that the procedure engaged in by the Minister of Health and Mass Media will ensure that the projects are implemented effectively and that she expresses her thanks for the programme on behalf of the World Health Organisation and that the programme is appreciated.
During this discussion, the representative of the World Health Organisation said that the control, suppression and management of Vector-borne diseases in Sri Lanka should be brought to an excellent level, together with the World Health Organisation and the United Nations, a constant awareness be raised regarding the current Health and other problems in the country and that arrangements will be made to set up a mechanism. She also stated that the World Health Organisation is constantly committed to improving the Nutritional status of infants and pregnant mothers in this country.
The Minister of Health and Mass Media, who further informed, Dr. Alaka Singh, representative of the World Health Organisation said that in the past, not taking steps to properly evaluate and manage projects implemented in Sri Lanka, it was not possible to achieve many goals and other desired things. He also said that in the future, to ensure that such a situation did not occur, modern technology will be used while taking action.
