Japan Envoy meets Health and Mass Media Minister

A meeting between Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and the Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Akio Isomata took place on Thursday (28) at the Ministry of Health.

Akio Isomata expressed the praise of the government of Japan for the new policy of creating a pro- people health service free from waste and corruption and moving the country forward economically. Discussions were held on the progress of the projects implemented under the “JICA” project, namely, the generation of renewable energy, the improvement of infectious waste management, the improvement of elderly-centred health services in the community and the strengthening of primary health services.

During these discussions, especially the projects of setting up cardiac catheterization units in Kandy, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Badulla and Trincomalee hospitals and installation of solar panels in Kegalle, Kurunegala and Sri Jayewardenepura hospitals, were also discussed at length.

On this occasion, the long-term friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka, which has a diplomatic relationship of 70 years, and the services provided by the “JICA” project for the advancement of the health service in Sri Lanka were recalled by the Minister and he thanked the Japanese Ambassador on behalf of the Government and the Ministry for the support provided by the Japanese government as well as the “JICA” project to properly maintain the primary, secondary and tertiary health services in Sri Lanka.

It was also mentioned that the existing bilateral relations between the two countries are expected to continue effectively.

The Minister pointed out that the new government will take steps to use the projects and grants given by the Japanese government to the country for the well-being of the people. Deputy Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Deputy Head of the delegation Naoaki Kamoshida, Katsuhiro Suzuki, and Sachi Tanaka, as second secretaries and representative of JICA project in this country Tetsuya Yamada and others were present.
