The Annual Josephian Christmas Carol Service was held at the Rev. Dr. Stanley Abeysekara Sports Complex cum Auditorium recently. The Carol service was organised by the St. Cecilia’s Choir of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10. The Josephian Christmas Carol was titled ‘Jesu Salvator Mundi’, which means ‘Saviour of the World’.
Without Christmas Carols, Christmas would not be Christmas. From Angel singing, bell ringing ebullience to deep, spiritual contemplation, nothing can match the Christmas Carol in terms of creating an atmosphere and the Josephian Carols, sung by the young Josephians and teachers were simply overwhelming.
It was also the perfect way to evoke feelings of nostalgia, which made the attendees feel elated and have a sense of longing simultaneously.
The Josephian Choristers sang the Christmas carols in English, Sinhala, Tamil and Latin Languages. The tunes were wonderfully melodic and brightened the environment.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He delivered a wonderful Christmas message on the importance of being ‘infected by Jesus to act like Jesus’.
Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi, the Rector/Principal of St. Joseph’s College delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked Almighty God and St. Joseph for their blessings, Rt. Rev. Dr. P. Anton Ranjith, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, for gracing the occasion and the Organising Committee, Rev. Fathers, Rev. Sisters and Rev. Fr. Samesh Anthony, the Priest-in-Charge, Francis D’ Almeida, the Choral Director and Trainer, Members of the Teachers and Old Joes Choir, Choir Leaders, Senior and Primary Choristers who joined to witness the beautiful Programme.
