Kenura bags TT Double at Western Junior Ranking Tourney
The promising paddler Kenura Silva clinched two titles boys under 11 and under 13 at the Western Province Junior Ranking Table Tennis Championship held at Indoor Stadium Bandaragama over the weekend.
Kenura the 10 year old player who is the younger brother of former National champion Senura Silva was outstanding in this tournament and defeated Diynon Danansuriya of Royal College in the under 11 final by 2-1 (11/13,11/4,12/10) while in the under 13 boys singles final Kenura outclassed Anandian Rusath Wickramasinghe by 2-1 (5/11,14/12,11/7) to bag a double in great style.
Meanwhile Shamalsha Dewmi of Holy Cross Gampaha also won a double in the under 15 and under 17 girls singles. Shamalsha beat Naduni Anupriya of Viharamahadevi BMV Kiribathgoda in two straight sets (11/6,11/8) at girls under 15 final while in under 17 final once again Shamalsha defeated same opponent Naduni Anupriya in two straight sets (11/3,11/5).
Danuk Lamasuriya of Ananda College beat beat his schoolmate Rehan Senanayake in a three setter game (10/12,11/8 ,11/5) to win boys under 19 title while Disali Ranasinghe of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo won girls under 19 title defeating Dulhara Hulawa of Musaeus (11/4,11/4).
Taven Samaraweera of S.Thomas Mt Lavinia and Senuli Weerasekara won the boys and girls under 7 titles while K.D Chrish of Loyala College Bopitiya and Jenuli Rupasinghe of Horizon International College won boys and girls under 9 titles.
Shenela Shashindri of Holy Cross Gampaha won girls under 11 title defeating Nelara Wickramasinghe of Musaeus while Senaya Hulangamuwa clinched girls under 13 title and Akain Suranga of CSI Kalubowila won boys under 13 final. Rehan Senanayake who was runner up of boys under 19 was able to win boys under 17 title.
The tournament was conducted by 82 batch of OBA St John’ s College Nugegoda and the president of St John’s Nugegoda OBA Dhanaraj Ramaratnam was the chief guest and former TTASL president and WPTTA secretary Chandana Perera was the guest of honour.
