Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera instructed the Agriculture Department to provide a technical report on the harvest of paddy for this season.

The Minister stated this in a discussion held yesterday (03) regarding harvesting and purchase of paddy during this season.

The purpose of calling this technical report is to find out whether there has been any damage to the paddy crops that are about to be harvested.

Agriculture Department Director General Malathi Parasuraman stated that steps will be taken to provide the relevant technical report to sell the paddy which is in the warehouses of the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) to small-scale rice mill owners before the harvest of the main season.

The Minister instructed PMB Chairman Buddhika Iddamalgoda to speed up the investigations that have been initiated against the officials who have been accused of fraud and corruption and take disciplinary action against them immediately.
