There is a huge demand for Sri Lanka Human Resource personnel especially in the Middle East market, Priyantha Ranasinghe, President Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) told the event organized to celebrate CIPM’s Diploma in Professional HRM (DPHRM) receiving the NVQ 5 national recognition which is a milestone in HR education in Sri Lanka.
He said this demand is there specially for HR professionals with Chartered Qualification in Human Resources Management (CQHRM) because that qualification has been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development of UK (CIPD UK). CIPD is set to be the biggest professional institute in the world for HR and the middle east job market’s top priority is CIPD membership.
Ranasinghe said by receiving the NVQ recognition they are expecting more students to enroll in their programs. He said before covid they had about 8,500 students. Due to APIT tax increase, covid and recession the first industry to be hit was education. However, at any given time the institute has over 5,200 students . He said they have 250 plus lecturers and the infrastructure with the six storeyed headquarters and branches in Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, Negombo and Gampaha. Ranasinghe said they have the capacity to go up to 10,000 with physical classes, hybrid and even online option models available for students and even some overseas students were enrolled with them.
This significant achievement sets a new benchmark for HR education in Sri Lanka and offers aspiring HR professionals and others a pathway to success. As the nation’s leader in human resource management, CIPM continues to upgrade the quality of its qualifications, such as the DPHRM which meets the NVQ Level 5 standard and provides a solid foundation in modern HR practices. It’s more than just a diploma but a launchpad toward the prestigious Chartered Qualification in HRM (CQHRM).
Now the DPHRM receives dual recognition : Recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) as a National Level Diploma equivalent to NVQ Level 5 and aligned with global HR standards, ensuring qualifications that are respected locally and internationally. It has also become a pathway to global opportunities: Graduates can progress to the Chartered Qualification in HRM (CQHRM) and pursue CIPD UK membership, gaining access to a worldwide network of HR professionals and resources. It also provides career-ready skills: The program equips students with practical tools and in-depth knowledge tailored to meet local industry needs and global best practices. This program reflects CIPM’s commitment to shaping the next generation of HR professionals who can excel both at home and on the global stage.
