Considering the global and national importance of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and also to facilitate wider prosperity and growth of economic affairs of Sri Lanka through training and developing Supply Chain professionals, on the recommendations submitted by ISMM and as per the Cabinet approval, the government of Sri Lanka has declared October 24, in every year as the ‘National Supply Chain Day’ whilst acknowledging tributes to ISMM for being the pioneer institution in training and developing Supply Chain professionals in the country for last 50 years. ISMM being the only professional organisation enacted by Act of Parliament No 3 of 1981 for fostering and conducting training on Supply Chain Management in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industries & Industries Development Board (IDB) has taken the initiative in organizing the first ever “National Supply Chain Day”. Accordingly, NSC day celebrations were held on October 24, 2023 in Shangri-La, Colombo in a grand scale with the following events.

Morning Session: 0830 hrs to 1700 hrs

a. “National Supply Chain Day Seminar”.

b. Issue of commemorative stamp for National Supply Chain Day

Evening Session: 1900 hrs onwards – “National Supply Chain Excellence Awards”

a. Award for the best Supply Chain Practicing Organization of the Year

b. Award for the best Supply Chain Professional of the Year

c. Banquet on “51 st Anniversary of ISMM”.

The National Supply Chain Day Seminar with “03 Technical Sessions CEO Forum” was well attended with more than 400 participants which brought together industry leaders, experts, and professionals to discuss the latest trends, best practices, and innovations in the field of supply chain management. It was a unique opportunity for all participants to gain valuable insights, network with peers, and contribute to industry growth and success.

The theme for the morning session Seminar was “Reshaping the future of Sri Lanka through Sustainable Supply Chain Ecosystem”. Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, M.P., Minister of Industries & Health graced the occasion as the Chief Guest “Chris Oanda, President of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) & Markku Henttinen, Chief Executive Officer of International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) attended as the Guest of Honour / Keynote Speaker and Special Guest respectively. Jayantha Gallahewa, President ISMM, Vice President OPA and many other distinguished guests graced this memorable occasion.

During the evening Session at the same Venue, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, M.P., Minister of Industries Health graced the occasion as the “Chief Guest” and more than 500 eminent Supply Chain professionals, industry experts, ISMM members and many other distinguished guests attended for the first ever “National Supply Chain Excellence Awards – 2023” for both Organizations under Large Medium categories (as no eligible Organization for Small Category) and Individuals followed with 51st Anniversary Banquet Dinner of ISMM.

Unilever Sri Lanka Limited emerged as the Winner of Large Category Jaykay Marketing Services (Pvt) Ltd. secured the award as 1st Runner Up and Alumex PLC Ansell Textiles Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. secured the awards as 2nd Runner Ups. In the Medium Category, John Keells Logistics (Pvt) Ltd. emerged as the Winner Premium Exports Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd. Hayley Consumer Products Limited secured the awards as 1 st Runner Up 2nd Runner Up respectively. D. Rajith P. Ranasinghe from Alumex PLC emerged as the Winner of “National Award for Best Supply Chain Professional” in 2023 R. W. Miraj Deshan Gamage from Siam City Cement (Lanka) Ltd. and Irusha T. Palawatta from Ansell Textiles Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. secured the awards as 1st Runner Up 2nd Runner Up respectively.

The declaration of “National Supply Chain Day” is a great achievement and a milestone for the ISMM in particular, and Supply Chain Management Industry in Sri Lanka in general, to receive the proper recognition from the government itself and to address the due areas of the current context of SCM in a professional manner.
