The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) yesterday issued landslide warnings for five districts.
The districts are Kandy, Badulla, Kurunegala, Matale and Nuwara Eliya.
The NBRO specifically mentioned Hali Ela, Badulla, Welimada and Passara Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas in the Badulla district, Medadumbara, Ududumbara and Pathadumbara Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) and surrounding areas in the Kandy district, Rideegama Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) and surrounding areas in Kurunegala, Rattota and Ukuwela Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas in Matale and Hanguranketha and Walapane Divisional Secretariat Division(DSD) and surrounding areas in Nuwara Eliya as vulnerable areas.
Those in these areas are advised to be watchful for sudden appearance of water sprouts, cracks on walls and on the soil as these may be signs of impending landslides.
Meanwhile the Meteorological Department said showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the country and cloudy skies are expected.
Fairly heavy showers about 75mm are likely at some places in Eastern, Uva, Central and Southern provinces and in Polonnaruwa district. Fairly strong winds of (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, Eastern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Matara and Hambantota districts.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
