National People’s Power (NPP) Executive Committee Member K. D. Lal Kantha stated that combatting fraud and corruption will be high on the agenda of the NPP Government.

Lal Kantha also noted that the Criminal Investigation Department and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption are actively functioning.

He stated that the obstacles hindering state institutions have now been removed, and investigations are being conducted properly.

“Those who challenge us to prove corruption charges will soon face the consequences,” he added.

According to Lal Kantha Sri Lanka currently has only three true public representatives. He pointed out that Parliament has been dissolved, and there are no representatives in Provincial Councils or Local Government bodies.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy, Lal Kantha stated, “The public needs to understand how corrupt politicians have misused the nation’s resources. In the previous Parliament, it was only our three MPs who functioned as the opposition. Sajith was merely a nominal Opposition Leader and did not fulfil his role. There’s talk from those who lost the Presidential Election that if they had consolidated the votes they didn’t receive, they could have won. But the reality is that no one, not even them, can gather all the votes they didn’t get. The people are divided into various factions. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has crumbled to the point that it is no longer a functioning party. As a result, some are now moving towards Dilith Jayaweera, hoping for some prospects. But this situation has become chaotic, and many of them will join the victorious front rather than cling to the old, anarchic political culture.”

He further mentioned that a strong Parliament is expected, with a two-thirds majority or something close to it being possible. “Right now, only three representatives are running the country. We need to move forward with a government of 25 Ministers and 25 Deputy Ministers after winning the General Election. We believe the winning alliance will secure more than 113 seats in Parliament. After the election, anyone who enters Parliament can discuss with us about joining forces. If such unity occurs, it will be determined by whether or not it hinders our ability to fulfil the promises we made to the country.”

Lal Kantha also explained that Governors have the authority to appoint representatives directly to institutions. He emphasised that such institutions are functioning with complete freedom to implement the law and that a free environment has been created for public servants to work without political pressure. “We are responsible for those we appoint, and we believe they will deliver their duties properly. If anyone feels they aren’t working as expected, they can file complaints, and we will take necessary action. We have not appointed relatives or personal friends to positions, nor do we plan to do so,” he said.
