State Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs Geetha Kumarasinghe stated in Parliament yesterday that there have been 69,748 cases of abuse and violence against women and children, in Sri Lanka since 2019.
Among them, 52,460 cases were of child abuse and violence against children and 17,288 cases were of abuse and violence against women, she said.
The State Minister said that most of the cases of child abuse and violence against children were reported in the year 2021 and the number was 11,187. She also mentioned that most of the cases of abuse and violence against women were also reported in the same year and it was 4,976.
She further said that 3,330 complaints of abuse and violence against women have been settled and the law has been implemented for the rest of the complaints.
