Partner banks and financial institutions, offer IBSL professional programme

The Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL), established in 1964 and incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1979, marks its 60th Anniversary.

Over the past six decades, IBSL has been playing a pivotal role in developing human capital for Sri Lanka’s banking and financial services sector, including the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

Continuing with its tradition of evolving to meet the needs of the dynamic Banking and Financial Services Industry, IBSL launched its new curriculum for the Professional Path in 2023.

Further, IBSL has partnered with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) to develop National Competency Standards (NCS) to assess qualifications in banking and finance and fill the long-felt needs of the nation. The National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) status will be obtained for the professional qualifications offered by IBSL in line with national standards.

As part of this initiative, IBSL has partnered with several banks and non-bank financial institutions to offer internship opportunities to those students who are enrolled in the IBSL professional programme to provide them with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in real-world banking operations.

IBSL has signed ten Training Partner Agreements with Banks and Finance companies. The 8th agreement was signed on September 3,  with Singer Finance (Lanka) PLC, the first finance company to join hands with IBSL to offer internship opportunities. The event was graced by the CEO, Thushan Amarasuriya, Naleen Andrews AGM HR, Ann Warnakulasuriya Junior Executive, Sandali Lakshika HR Officer.

The 9th agreement was signed on October 2, with the Regional Development Bank (RDB) at its head office in the presence of  E.A.D.J. Priyashantha General Manager/Chief Executive Officer (Acting), D.K.S. Serasinghe Chief Huma Resource Officer, G.M.B.C. Silva DGM Business Revival and Recovery, D.M.T.S. Kumara Head of Operations, W. Athula Kumara DGM Credit, Special Projects and Policy Implementation, S.D.A.S. Sandanayake  AGM Human Resources.

The latest agreement in the series, 10th, was signed with the Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC on OLctober 4, in the presence of Isuru Tillakawardana, DGM Human Resource Management, Kanishka Ranaweera DGM (Designate) HRM, Pushpa Chandrasiri Head of Human Resource Management, Rasika Perera, Chief Manager Staff Development Centre, Inoka Jayamanne Senior Manager HRM. From IBSL C. P. A. Karunatilake, Director General of the IBSL, Manjula Wickramasinghe, Jinandi Chandrarathne, Chethana Ranaweera and  Aruna Chandrasiri were present at the event.

These long-term partnerships indicate the IBSL’s commitment to open doors for its students to enhance their competencies with knowledge and skills with practical exposure to become resourceful professionals to meet the human capital needs in the Banking and Financial Services Industry not only in Sri Lanka but also anywhere in the rest of the world.
