Pettah building fire victim succumbs

A 22-year-old woman who was hospitalised following the recent fire that engulfed a textiles store in Pettah has succumbed to the injuries she sustained yesterday (3).

Police reported that the woman had died while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital.

The deceased woman has been identified as a resident of the Watawala area. She was among a total of 20 who were injured during the fire as a result of being trapped inside the building who were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital for immediate medical attention due to burn injuries and respiratory difficulties due to the fire that erupted inside a textile store on second Cross Street in Pettah on October 27.

The injured persons due to the fire were reported by Police to be aged between 18 and 25 years, and six of them were receiving treatment at the ICU at the Colombo National Hospital, according to the hospital sources.
