From January to December 18, 2024, 734 rat fever patients have been reported from the Galle District, with 8 of them dying of the disease, said Galle District Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Eranga Hettiarachchi.
There has been an increase in the number of Rat Fever patients from 70 in October to 120 in November, the epidemiologist further revealed.
He also said that the highest number of patients had been recorded in the Medical Officer of Health Divisions of Karandeniya, Baddegama and Balapitiya. Dr. Hettiarachchi further advised that in case of any symptoms of the disease being apparent, a doctor should be immediately consulted.
