Rossiya Airlines, one of the oldest and largest air carriers of Russia launched direct flights between Colombo and Russia deploying a Boeing-777 aircraft and will fly to Colombo four times a week.
The airline founded in May 1934 a part of Aeroflot Group will be the third Russian airline after Aeroflot, Azur Air and Red Wings to operate direct flights between Russia and Sri Lanka. The addition of air capacity will further boost Russian tourists to Sri Lanka. Currently Russia is the second source destination to Sri Lanka after India.
The fourth airline between Moscow in Russia and Katunayake Airpor has started flights from December 27, 2023 and will be continue till March 31. The foreign air operator certificate for the airline was given by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority, P. A. Jayakantha, to Head of Planning and Operations of the Russian Airlines Nikita Dolgov, at the Katunayake Civil Aviation Authority office premises last month.
