SLC donates bowling machines to schools and District Associations

Sri Lanka Cricket came forward to donate 22 bowling machines worth 1.3 million to 22 A division cricket schools and 4 District Cricket Associations yesterday at the SLC headquarters.

This is very important for the schools as well as District Associations who are having indoor nets.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) always give finance support and other infrastructure facilities for the school cricket development and that is more important to go forward said Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) President Thilak Watthuhewa on this occasion.

We knew after 2018 school cricket haven’t sponsor and year 2018, 18 schools of A division received bowling machines and that time SLC promised to give more bowling machines to other schools and today SLC donated bowling machine worth 1.3 million. Among the schools Ratnawali BMV Gampaha who is performing girls cricket well also received bowling machine.

Ratnapura, Matara, Badulla and Kurunegala district also received bowling machines yesterday.

Despite Covid 19 Schools Cricket Association conducted all junior cricket except under 13 and we are able to conduct these tournaments with the support of SLC. The number of schools who are playing cricket today increased and we all handle very well with the support of SLC. Today SLC also conducted schools cricket awards ceremony from last year.

In 2018 there were 600 boys schools played cricket and today it increased to 875 while in 2018 there were 27 girls schools involved cricket and today it has increased to 90 schools and our aim is to promote cricket with the support of SLC added SLSCA President Thilak Watthuhewa.

SLC President Shammi Silva also said SLC wanted to promote cricket at rural areas while our aim is to win Under 19 cricket world cup. Sri Lanka is under 19 world cup runners up and our dream is to take champions of under 19 world cup. This time we had chance to host under 19 world cup but due to political influence ICC shifted that to South Africa and we lost big amount of money (3000 million Dollers) from not getting hosting rights. If we were to host under 19 world cup here we could have more chance to win the under 19 world cup.

Meanwhile SLC President further said SLC Exco committee have idea to give support to the school cricket coaches and their bowling machines are very good for the cricketers. We are hope to give more support to the schools which is platform for the National cricket”.

Dr. Kusala Fernando the Principal of Gurukula MV Kelaniya , Maheshika Rupasinghe the Principal of Dharmapala Pannipitiya both said the bowling machine is very expensive and at this stage SLC give excellent support to the schools to uplift cricket.

Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa the Vice President of SLC, Secretary Chryshantha Kapuwatte, National Cricket Development Head Kamal Dharmasiri were also present on this occasion.
