Southern Province Best Entrepreneur Awards 2023 ends successfully

The Best Entrepreneur Award Ceremony of the Southern Province was held on 28th December at RADDISON BLU Resort in Galle.

The event was organized by the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) in collaboration with the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) and supported by the Chambers of Commerce in Galle and Matara, the Consulate General of India Hambantota office and Southern Province Development Authority. This is the consecutively 6th time the award ceremony took place and feted the SMEs in the Southern Province.

The awards were established to motivate the business sector within the province to elevate their business practices and entrepreneurial achievements. The National Entrepreneurship Development Authority (NEDA) has been appointed by the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) to oversee the evaluation process and orchestrate the award ceremony. The event was graced by the Industries & Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana as the Chief Guest, with Small & Medium Enterprise Development State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera as the Special Guest. Additionally, the Consular General of India, Harvin Singh, along with other dignitaries such as NEDA Chairman Lasantha Kariyapperuma, various directors and officers, Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma, Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, District Secretaries of Hambantota, Matara, and Galle, Southern Province Development Authority Chairman Ariyawansa Shammu, and Presidents & Board of Directors from the Galle, Matara, and Hambantota District Chambers of Commerce were in attendance. The ceremony also saw participation from representatives of the Government, NGOs, and private sector companies.

NEDA provided partial funding for the event, which is also sponsored by the Consulate General of India Hambantota office, Southern Province Development Authority. Significantly this year the event feted micro-scale entrepreneurs to encourage and felicitate their commitment to the country’s economy and improve their capacity to the next level of entrepreneurship. Winners were selected by a panel of judges who evaluated entrepreneurs’ submissions and conducted interviews and field visits. The competition presented awards for three sector categories under four size categories, as well as eight special awards.
