Sri Lanka attracts 1.49 Mn tourists in 2023

Sri Lanka managed to attract 1,487,303 tourist arrivals for the year 2023 falling short by a few number of their target of 1.5 million arrivals. However this is the highest number of arrivals achieved after four years and was an increase of 106.6% as against the 2022 figure of 719,978.

The month of December 2023 saw the arrival figures passing the 210,350 mark which is the highest month arrival figure since four years. Sri Lanka recorded 151,496 arrivals for November2023. The top source destination for Sri Lanka was India with 43,973 which accounts to 21% of the total figure. The Russian Federation with 29,657 (14%) , the United Kingdom 19,265 (9%) and Germany 13,747 (6%) were other top tourism source markets for Sri Lanka.

China, which was among the top two destinations for Sri Lanka tourism a few years ago, was at sixth place with 8,274 arrivals. (SS)
