China says that if the Philippines arbitrarily places the Typhon weapon system, it will directly harm the country through the disadvantages. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mrs. Mao Ning mentioned that the weapon system is a strategic weapon and not a defensive weapon. The Philippines has stated that the system will only be used for a military exercise. It is reported that it is expected to be permanently stationed in the country even though it has been promised that it will be withdrawn after the end of the military exercise last September. She says that this statement is a breaking of promises.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also said that China will ask the Philippines to remove the Typhon weapon system as soon as possible and follow through on its promises, taking into account the demands of regional countries.
Philippine National Defense Minister Gilberto Teodoro said on the 24th that America’s deployment of the Typhon weapon system in the joint military exercise is justified and legal and will not accept objections from foreign countries. Responding to that, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated China’s position at the regular press conference held yesterday (26).
