Thirty three teams for Netball Nationals

Thirty Three teams are expected to take part at the National Senior Netball Championship which will be held on January 20-21 at Albert F. Pieris Stadium Wennappuwa.

This is a major event of the tournament calender while matches will be played at Albert F Pieris Out door stadium as well as Indoor Stadium said President of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka. This time two teams from a District Association eligible to play this National Championship while most of the National players are expected to take part. Twenty one teams have already confirmed.

After the awards ceremony the special awards will be given to Best Center Court Player, Best Shooter, Best Defender and Netball Queen.

Netball President Victoria Lakshmi further added they will conduct more tournaments like National junior championship (Kurunegala or Badulla), Inter Firm Championship to promote the game. We are more focused on next year’s junior and senior world cup tournaments. We are the defending Asian champions and will take part in Asia Cup scheduled to be played in Saudi Arabia from September 27 and already 18 member National squad has been picked.

We are focusing not only on players but also to develop our umpiring standard with Eranga Sithara being selected as International Talent Identified Umpire and we hope to send our umpires for International exposure said Netball President.
