Turkish Airlines recommences direct flight services to KIA

Turkish Airlines re-started direct flight services with Sri Lanka and the first flight arrived at Katunayake Airport (KIA)yesterday with 261 passengers onboard while the flight carried 209 outbound passengers for Istanbul, Turkey.

For about 10 years, Turkish Airlines had been operating its flight services to Katunayake Airport via Maldives, and with the start of direct flight services, the number of passengers coming from Turkey to Sri Lanka will increase three times, said Chairman, Airports and Air Services Company Limited G.A. Chandrasiri, at the reception held at the airport.

These direct flight services between Istanbul, Turkey and Katunayake International Airport will operate every week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This is expected to increase to daily flights from next year.

Turkish Ambassador to Sri Lanka Demet Sekercioglu , Deputy Director General of AASL, Rehan Vanniappa, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Authority Chalaka Gajabahu and others attended the welcoming ceremony of the aircraft.
