Twenty two member preliminary squad for Zimbabwe series

Sri Lanka cricket Selection Committee headed by Upul Tharanga has an idea to name 22 member ODI and T-20 cricket preliminary squad to focus on forthcoming Zimbabwe cricket series which will commence on January 6.

Based on the performance of ongoing Major Clubs limited over cricket tournament selectors have done this selection and all five selection committee members are going to see the Major clubs matches and discuss with Provincial selectors to make the selections.

After naming the 22 member squad they will prune down it to 15 members to get approval from the Sports Minister Harin Fernando.

Sri Lanka will be play three ODI’s and 3 T-20′ matches in the series which are scheduled to be played at the R.Premadasa International cricket stadium.

Meanwhile selection committee is very serious about next National Super League tournament which will commence on January 18. The new captains also will be appointed for all three formats Test, ODI and T20 and hope to send the names to the Sports Minister for approval.

Normally selectors send the names of the team to Sport Ministry and it has to be forwarded to National Selection Committee headed by General Shavendra Silva and after their approval it has to be forwarded to the Sports Minister.

Meanwhile few new players will be named to get match exposure at thie Zimbabwe series while experienced players also will retain their places and a mix of experienced and youth players will be named. The Zimbabwe series is a good test for the new players, said a senior official of SLC.

Major clubs L/O matches resume from tomorrow

Major clubs limited over matches which were halted due to Christmas holidays will resume tomorrow while SSC and Sebastianites are on top of the points table after six matches while Negombo CC and Nugegoda SC are in second places of their respective groups.

Sebastianites on top of the Group A with 8 points while SSC led by Charith Asalanka on top of Group B with 11 points also maintain an unbeaten record.

Irosh Samarasooriya of Galle CC having 346 runs with an average of 86.50 is on top among the batsmen while Janith Liyanage of Ragama CC having 297 runs and Ranesh Silva of Badureliya SC having 294 runs in third place.

Meanwhile Indian player Parvez Rasool who is playing for Badureliya SC having highest wickets of 17 while Pulina Tharanga of Chilaw Marians CC with 13 wickets is second and Akila Dhananjaya of Colts CC with 12 wickets is third place so far in this tournament.
