Welcoming the New Year…

Thousands of people gathered at Galle Face Green and a number of other places in Colombo city, welcoming the New Year with cheer and dazzling light shows.

The people, mostly youngsters, flocked to Colombo as the Galle Face Green and Lotus Tower came alive with a host of special events. Many hotels in the city had also arranged a host of activities to celebrate the arrival of 2025 with grandeur and excitement.

Fireworks illuminated the skies in various parts of the country as people bade farewell to the old year and welcomed the new one. A spectacular fireworks display graced Colombo Port City and Lotus Tower.

In addition to the joyous celebrations, many Sri Lankans flocked to religious places throughout the country to seek blessings for the New Year. Large crowds were seen at the historical Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises, Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and the Kelaniya Temple on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day – January 01, 2025.
