“X-Press Pearl disaster killed 176 turtles, 20 dolphins and 04 Whales” AG informs to court.

The Attorney General informed the Colombo Magistrate Court today (30) that 176 sea turtles, 04 whales and 20 dolphins were killed due to the environmental damage in the aftermath of the fire of the Cargo Vessel MV X-Press Pearl.

Deputy Solicitor General Madhava Tennakoon appearing for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) made this revelation as the case pertaining to the disaster was taken before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Court today.

The 39-member committee appointed by the Marine Pollution Prevention Authority had recommended that these deaths had occurred due to the eco damage upon the ship’s fire, he revealed.
